Fiddlers Green Festival is delighted to welcome Matt McGinn to this year’s programme. Hailing from Hilltown, Co. Down, Matt is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose music draws deeply from personal experience and a rich sense of place. From his early days as a coal man to studying music at Queen’s University Belfast, Matt’s journey has shaped a distinctive and authentic musical voice.
His third album Lessons of War earned him widespread recognition, with the standout track Bubblegum powerfully echoing the Troubles in which he grew up. His duet with Aoife Scott, Time Well Spent, became one of the biggest folk hits of 2020, cementing his status as one of Ireland’s most respected contemporary folk artists.
Matt will be joined by two incredible musicians for this special Fiddlers Green performance. Fellow Hilltown native John Cunningham brings masterful traditional flute and whistle playing, while Laura Jo, a Longford-born All-Ireland winning multi-instrumentalist, adds her vibrant songwriting and powerful vocals to the trio.
With praise from musical icons like Mary Black and Christy Moore, and recent collaborations with artists like Paul Brady and Foy Vance, Matt McGinn’s music continues to resonate with audiences across generations.
