SUMMARY:Matt Benson
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 19th July 2026 | 1:00pm | An Cuan\, Rostrevor\nFiddlers Green Festival is delighted to welcome Belfast singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Benson to An Cuan for what promises to be a captivating afternoon of soul\, storytelling\, and exceptional musicianship. \nMatt’s remarkable musical journey began in unusual circumstances — after an explosion at his father’s Belfast music store led him to a salvaged trombone that would shape his future. Drawn early towards jazz and live performance\, he later earned a scholarship to study music in London before immersing himself in the rich and unpredictable world of the city’s music scene. \nHis career has included performances with electro-swing favourites Sam and The Womp\, tours alongside ska legends Bad Manners\, appearances with The Pogues\, Brian May\, and Coolio\, before eventually joining George Ezra’s touring band and performing on arena stages and major festivals around the world\, including Glastonbury. \nAlongside these experiences\, Matt developed his own songwriting voice\, culminating in the acclaimed album Sit Back Down Again\, recorded at Camden Studios in Dublin with producer Cian Boylan. Blending New Orleans soul\, 1960s rhythm and blues\, rich storytelling\, and deeply personal songwriting\, the album explores themes of love\, loss\, ambition\, and finding direction through life’s challenges. \nWith a voice full of warmth and character and songs that balance emotional honesty with vivid storytelling\, Matt Benson brings a unique sound and presence to this year’s Fiddlers Green Festival.

SUMMARY:Wind up/Wind down Walk
DESCRIPTION:Monday 20th July: Meet at Fairy Glen Entrance @ 12:00 noon\nWind up/Wind down Walk\nFor a number of years\, on the day after the Festival finished the Fiddler’s Green committee and a few of the visiting regulars got together and walked to the top of Slieve Martin\, the highest peak overlooking Rostrevor. Along the way a few songs were sung\, poems recited and beverages consumed as a way to relax after our hectic week. It has now become an extra festival event extending us into a ninth day. From the Fairy Glen we head up past the café to the River Walk and then on by Cloughmor to Slieve Martin. After some respite at the Cairn\, you can head back down via the Zigzags\, at your own pace to the village where a small session can be found in one of our many fine hostelries. Although it is a fairly high climb it can be done at a relatively slow pace and for the less fit there is an opportunity to start at the high car park. \nDuration: 2 hours\nDistance 7km\nHighest Point: 485m\nLevel: Easy to Moderate\nCharge: FREE \nFiddler’s Green Walking Festival \nAll of these walks will be in the moderate to difficult category.
